**Workshop alert!** There are lots of different reasons to make art. Even if you are making art just to please yourself, it's important to spend some time thinking about what you want to illustrate, and how you want to approach your portrayal of that subject matter. I'm teaching a little workshop on Saturday to talk about my composition process, and everyone is invited! Especially helpful if you've struggled with making artwork that just doesn't turn out the way you hoped it would. (Honestly, figuring out composition is usually the most difficult part of creating an illustration! And it's the most important.)

(This was one of the hardest things I had to learn as a budding illustrator.) I'm offering a "Shading and 3D Form Boot Camp" using graphite (pencils) on March 1 and 8 via Zoom. It will include your standard art school exercises that I struggled through, but helped me learn concepts I use every single day in my working life. I got to teach a bunch of 6th graders how to draw snowy plovers for use in Oregon State Parks signage last week at the Neah-Kah-Nie school in Rockaway Beach. Such a cool classroom, awesome teacher and great kiddos! Next week I'll be involved in the same program at the Nestucca school in Cloverdale.

I visited signage at the Rockaway Beach Big Tree Trail for which I provided some artwork. The boardwalk is wonderful, and the Big Tree itself is absolutely AMAZING! It is an old growth cedar tree, 154' tall and 50' around. Well worth a visit.

In addition I'll have what I refer to as the "garage sale," where boxes of unframed artwork created for various projects* will be available.

*Most commissioned science illustration work is delivered digitally, which means the illustrator ends up with the original artwork. Every now and then it's good to see if anybody needs an illustration of a boa constrictor, mud dauber or wreath of nasturtiums to complete their decor.
